Recycled paper for specifications and plotting, bike racks, a new hybrid car are just a few of several efforts on the part of Jack Ball and Associates Architects PC to reduce the firm's environmental footprint.
JBAPC is a member of the USGBC (United States Green Building Council) and employs a full-time LEED AP consultant. The firm is encouraging other employees to pursue this accreditation as well. Current JBAPC projects pursuing LEED Certification include the new Hickory Hills K-8 Facility for Springfield R-XII School District. "We encourage the use of sustainable products in all JBAPC projects, such as those made from rapidly renewable resources, those that have low VOC emissions and products that are manufactured locally." From an operational standpoint, JBAPC is transitioning to paperless correspondence; while all remaining small format printed matter is being processed on 100% recycled post-consumer fiber. By working with our supplier, we have obtained 30% recycled post consumer fiber plotter paper as well.

In-house recycling canisters for paper, plastic, and aluminum are also a new addition to the office kitchen. Roof renovations slated for the near future will include additional insulation that will greatly reduce utility usage, as well as a new white roof membrane to help reduce the urban heat island effect. Bike racks have been installed for employees use to encourage alternative transportation, and a Toyota Prius Hybrid has been purchased for company travel.
